You shall teach [God’s commands] diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Deuteronomy 6:7

RECOMMENDED READING: DEUTERONOMY 6:1-9 “ “Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

COMMENTS:  God knows us better than we know ourselves, or at least will admit to.  He knows how  quickly we forget Him and his laws.  He knows how easily we are distracted and how weak we are.  He also knows how vulnerable we are to satan’s lures.  After all, we only have lived a few years while satan has had thousands of years over countless generations to master his evil skills.

BUT WE ARE NOT LEFT DEFENSELESS!  God has always provided His abiding presence and council and help sufficient to defeat satan if only follow that council and instruction.  Today’s scripture from Deuteronomy is such instruction given to the Israelite.  But, also applies today to us.

Today, we also have Christ’s redemption available to anyone who accepts it.  Today we have the abiding Holy Spirit available to  give strength and council to any and all who accept Christ’s redemption.   Today, we have God’s eternal wisdom and instruction preserved in the Bible to guide us to make wise choices every day.

Satan does not have any defense and is no match to God’s power and abilities and wisdom and knowledge and Will.  With God on our side, he doesn’t have a chance of fooling us.   All we need to do is keep our eyes and focus on Him and follow His council.

We have the wisdom of knowing the consequences endured by those before us who disobeyed God and followed satan’s dead end!   The children of the exodus generation had their parent’s foolish choices as their example.  The didn’t have Moses but they had his successor, Joshua, who was there remaining faithful from the beginning of the exodus.

Some fathers show their children what not to do, but faithful fathers example what best to do.  To come to Christ early and remain faithful to Him for the rest of your life.  Faithful fathers are those who show their children the relevance of God’s Word to all of life.

A father’s holy life is a rich legacy for his sons.  Charles H. Spurgeon
